Bones! Episode 1: A Skeleton's Best Friend (Part 1 of 2)




First animation in a series I have planned. This took a long time and a lot of work. I created several new rigs, modified several others, created some assets, and created settings for this and the next episode. This is also the longest character animation I have done. Hope everyone enjoys it!

The Bouncy Creeper

Here is a short I created while learning the Cycles render engine. Even though it is a short simple animation it took a lot of time to learn the new engine as well as creating some new scene assets. I learned a lot and hope to be able to produce future Cycles animations faster (except for render times, ugh). Enjoy.

More Animation News

With a little less free time on my hands (see previous blog post), and with the need to learn the Cycles render engine, I have put the animation I started on hold. I am now working on a short animation that should give me a good basic understanding of Cycles and allow me to test out a creeper rig that I love but never used much. Hopefully I can finish this smaller project in the next week or so and then pick up again on the previous one.

Animation Delays


That is my poor baby girl with a broken femur. Only two years old and in a nearly full body cast. She and her brother tripped over each other and fell awkwardly. We have a rough eight weeks ahead of us.  :(

Parody Animations

Another request I get frequently is to make an animation for a song parody. So far I have turned all of these down and here are the reasons why:

1. Parodies have been done to death. After they died they were done a million more times and I am sure another million are in the works. It just isn't special anymore and I think that is reflected in the number of views they get.

2. Quality. Smaller channels have a lot less resources and the overall quality is obviously lower. Combine this with number 1 to bring the views down a little more.

3. The split. Similar to number 2, small channels generally will divide up the work between many different channels. One channel picks the song and writes the lyrics, another channel makes the music, another does the vocals, another channel creates the animation or in game footage. In the end all these people want to grow their channels and may not be happy with just a link in the credits. The result may be a video that is uploaded on several channels. So whatever views the video would have gotten are split 2 or 3 (maybe more) ways.

As an animator it just is not worth the 100+ hours of work.

Upcoming animation: Minecraft in Real Life.

So my next animation will be a 'minecraft in real life' video. Before I can even get started with animating I have had to learn a lot about camera and object tracking. I think this will be a large project, but it should be worth the wait.  :)

Back!

I'm back! I would love to say that I spent the last seven months working on a big project, but the truth is I just got burned out. But I am back at it and here is another short animation. This one is a bit lame, but hey, I am pretty out of practice right now =) More coming soon!
